Shital Pradhan felicitated for “Proud to be a Sikkimese”

Dalapchand: Himali Sangh, a State Level Youth Awardees NGO from Dalapchand held an environment program on June 17. It was attended by more than two dozen members of the organization at its office. The hour long program had discussions and speeches about Biodiversity Conservation from distinguished guests. Present on the occasion were Narendra Chettri (Chief Guest of the day), Deputy Director ICDS, Prakash Poudyal, Green Teacher of Dalapchand SS, Narad Mani Dawari, former Panchayat and others.

The other highlight of the program was the felicitation of Shital Pradhan, teacher of Dalapchand SS for his popular blog “Proud to be a Sikkimese” about history and news of Sikkim. Narpati Dawari, Secretary of Himali Sangh read the bio data of Shital Pradhan. Narendra Chettri handed over a memento to Pradhan.

A small rally was also held with people of all age participating in it holding different placards on environment. Tek Nath Poudyal, President of Himali Sangh in his welcome speech informed the gathering Sangh members about the importance of the day. He spoke about the need in relationship between the nature and human beings. Poudyal said that Sangh had been working in State Level programs since its establishment and we should now prepare ourselves for the National Level programs too. Poudyal further said we have to preserve the Mother Nature not for us but for our coming generations.

Poetry contest and placard contest was also held that was won by Jayanti Dawari and Loochan Bhattrai respectively. Prakash Poudyal, Green Teacher of Dalapchand SS was the resource person of the day and he endow with information about the need for preservation of plant life. Poudyal put on attention to the Sangh members, the importance of social fencing. He said planting of sapling won’t make an earth green but it is the thought of social fencing that will create a green earth.

Narendra Chettri said he was very happy to learn about the progress made by Himali Sangh. Cherri added we as a human being should understand our environment and help them sustain. It is their presence that keeps us alive, said Chettri. He appreciated the Forest Department initiation to stop illegal grazing of cattle at forest lands and cutting down of trees. Chettri urged everyone to work together to make a better environment.

Shital Pradhan thanked members of Himali Sangh for the honour and appreciation for his blog, Pradhan said today we are concerned about environment and call for preserving it, similarly documentation of Sikkim History is also necessary for our coming generations.
