Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) Delhi NCR has welcomed the coming together of GJM and the Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad (ABAVP) leaders under a single platform. GJM Delhi has said that the coming together of the two organisations for spreading peace and harmony is a good example. In a political movement it is extremely diffucult to win wars single handedly and therefore the move of ABAVP is the right move at the right time.

GJM Delhi said that it always has been and will always be ready to assist the delegates of ABAVP in every possible manner whenever they come to Delhi to attend dialogues with the Home Ministry. GJM Delhi is also looking forward to launch a campaign to identify the pocket areas within the capital, where the Adivasis and minorities belonging to ABAVP reside and promote them join hands with them for a joint and an effective movement in future.

The rights and demands of the Adivasis to demand an autonomous body for tribal dominated Terai-Dooars region is purely constutional and the way they have decided to join hands with the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) to demand ATA (Adivasi Territorial Administration) under the Gorkhaland and Adivasi Territorial Administration (GATA) comprising the Hills, the Terai and the Dooars makes them our brothers and we would always stand by them for a common cause says Ranjan Sharma, General Secretary of GJM, Delhi.

With regard to the ongoing activities of GJM unit of Delhi, a meeting was held on 30.10.2011 at B2/2, Safdarjung Enclave. Manoj Sankhar, President, presided over the meeting with other executives of Parents Body, Nari Morcha, Yuwa Morcha and representatives of Vasant Gaon Prasakha were also present in the said meeting. The team Delhi of GJM headed by Manoj Sankhar, President, Rustam Chhetri, V.P and Lopsang Lama AGS have initiated a campaign in collaboration with the United Bank of India, Delhi to open bank accounts for the Gorkhas who reside in Delhi & NCR.

Normally for outsiders opening a bank account in Delhi is not at all easy. The most significant issue that arises while opening a bank account is the proof of identification and residential address. Gorkhas residing in Delhi are always misunderstood as citizens of Nepal and therefore an identification and residential proof is a very vital document required for official record while opening a bank account or be it for any official purpose. If in case identification/residential proof is not available approval of police officials is required. Therefore, GJM Delhi has been issuing identification and residential proof to those who are actively involved in the party’s internal campaign and taking active initiatives to open bank accounts for those who need the most in the capital city.

Preparations to organize a national level meeting in Delhi in the month of January is also under process . In the National level meeting likely to be held in the capital city, luminaries from all over the country would be invited to discuss and analyse social, political, cultural, educational and constitutional issues related to Gorkhas. The issue of national identity of the Gorkhas residing all over the country will also be a prime topic for discussion.

The Central Committee representatives would play the lead role and GJM Delhi would also play an active role in the campaign. Members of the National Committeed of GJM will also be asked to participate and representatives/ delegates of GJM Unit from all country shall be invited on the forum. The seminar would be followed by a grand cultural programme to promote and value the rich culture of the Gorkhas .
