Heavy snowfall has restricted the tourists and traders to reach Nathula and Tsongu, since 6th November 2011. Speaking over the phone President of Nathula Traders Association N.W Lachungpa informed that due to heavy snow fall, the 3rd Mile check post police has not allowed the traders as wells as tourist to visit Nathula and Tsongu. Land slides in certain place have been another concern, she added. Similarly Sherethang OC informed that due to land slide tourist and trader were not allowed to visit Nathula and Tsongo, as it was risky. The heavy rainfall has been another problem for the local people.
Many of the tourists have shown disappointment in this regard as they have come a long way to visit the place. Regarding the issue speaking to Sikkim Mail Prashant Burman tourist from Kolkata said that they had come to Sikkim to visit Nathula and Tsongu, as he was informed by his friend, but could not get the pass because of the heavy snowfall. But he wishes to visit the place before returning home on Friday. ‘for its beauty and strategic importance of the place we dream to visit Nathula’ said, Rewant Ghosh, a tourist from Hyderabad.
