The Janmukti Karmachari Sangathan, Kalimpong subdivision committee, a frontal organisation of Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha has called a indefinite closure of the three block development offices and 41 gram Panchayat offices after a clash broke among the villagers of Pitamchin of Lingsay gram Panchayat on January 10, 2012 in Kalimpong block two.
Kharga Bikram Subba, president of Jan Mukti Karmachari Sangathan, Kalimpong sub divisional committee told the reporters that they condemned the incident in which one member of Lingsay gram Panchayat Sonam Tashi Bhutia along with four other villagers got injured. They were admitted in Kalimpong sub divisional hospital.
The incident occurred at the Lingsay gram Panchayat office premises January 10. It happened when the villagers of Pitamchin were called by the Panchayat members to listen to the grievance’s of those whose names were left out during the survey of the aftermath of the 18/9 earthquake. This group of villagers pressurized the Panchayat members to give them the grant immediately. Panchayat members told them that they will forward the left out names to the BDO office but the stagnant mood of villager collided with the Panchayat members, which injured Sonam Tashi Bhutia along with a local Bahadur Subba has been referred to Siliguri. Other three admitted in the Kalimpong hospital are Bhimlal Sharma, Pasang Temba Sherpa and Muktinath Sharma.
Mob also vandalised the kitchen of a MSK school. Sangathan made it clear that until and unless the culprits are arrested, indefinite closure of the block development offices and Panchayat offices of Kalimpong subdivision will continue. If the administration fails to arrest the culprit, the Sangathan will call for an indefinite closure of all the BDO offices of the hills. A written complaint, too, has been lodged against 17 people who were allegedly involved in the incident.
