The Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) group of Institutions, Pune, India has conferred the honour of Bharat Asmita Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar 2012, Special Award for Life Time Achievement to Shri Pawan Chamling, Chief Minister of Sikkim. At a well attended function Shri Chamling was handed over the award, a plaque, a citation, and shawl, by Dr R A Mashelkar Padma Bhushan, and Chairman of the Bharat Asmita National Awards Committee. The other imminent recipients of awards in their respective fields were actor/director Nana Patekar; television producer-director and quiz show host Siddartha Basu; Director, Tata Institute of Social Sciences Prof S Parasuraman, Director General CSIR, Prof Samir K Brahmachari and MP, Lok Sabha Jayant Chaudhary.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister apprised the gathering about the various development such as Catch, Green Mission and Kutcha house free mission of the State. While addressing the student community of MIT institute he urged the younger generation to inculcate the values of hard work, sincerity, and responsibilities and contribute towards nation building.

Started in 2005, the Bharat Asmita National Award is a prestigious award given to prominent luminaries in various fields such as education, social andpolitical fields, science and technology etc. In the past some prominen trecipients of these awards have been former Chief Election Commissioner T N Seshan, Loksabha MP Jyotiraditya Sindhia, CNN IBN Editor Rajdeep Sardesai, Dancer Mallika Sarabai and NDTV Group Editor Bharka Dutt.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by his wife Mrs Tika Maya Chamling, Mr O.T.Lepcha MP Rajya Sabha, Principal Secretary and Secretary IPR.
