The 4th Gram Shree Mela 2012 of Self Help Group was inaugurated by the MLA Gangtok Dorjee Namgyal Bhutia at Old Children Park here in the Capital. As a chief guest of the inaugural function he visited the entire forty stalls displayed with the local product of self help group from all over the state.
The exhibition cum sale Mela organized by Sikkim Rural Development Agency, RMDD Government of Sikkim will remain till 5th May 2012.
While addressing from the chair Namgyal appreciated the work of Self help groups and encouraged them to refine their product to compete in the market. He congratulated the department for holding such an effective scheme for the rural people of Sikkim. It will also help to increase the economic status of the poor people of rural areas, he added. He suggested the self help groups to insert the state’s name in their product so as to enhance the value of their product and attract the tourist as well. Namgyal also gave away the certificate to the rural girls who had completed their training in dancing provided by the department.
Earlier, the Project Director L P Chhetri in his welcome speech briefed about the function and schemes of the department towards self help groups. One of the members of self help group Ms. Laxmi Rai also shared her experience and suggested others to be a part of such programme which will help in enhancing the economic standard. She also thanked the department for the support and encouragement to uplift their profession skill and run their livelihood.
