Sikkim Sachet Berojgar Swarojgar Sangh (SSBSS) has decided to withdraw the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) framed against Sikkim University in the High Court of Sikkim on 30th March 2012 challenging the illegal recruitment process in Sikkim University.
The decision was taken following the incomplete collection of proper documents owing to their tight schedules, informed Publicity Secretary of SSBSS, Khemraj Pokhrel. However with the proper documents coming at their hands they would nonetheless file PIL in future against Sikkim University, he said.
Regarding the issue, Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University, Dr. Mahendra P. Lama commented on PIL being valueless as the Court cannot sustain it for a long duration.
It may be recalled that the Sikkim Sachet Berojgar Swarojgar Sangh had filed PIL challenging recruitment process of SU for non-teaching and non-executive posts, staging Dharna in front of SU office in Development area and 6th Mile Tadong in the month of March 2012.
Recently there had also been widespread protests and picketing against the recruitment process by various groups such as the affected land donors (for the SU campus to come up in Yangyang) and dissatisfied youths who claimed that they were job applicants who had not been informed about the written exam and interview by SU.
