Sikkim: Chief Electoral Officer meets district officers

Gangtok, 30 May, 2012:

The Chief Electoral Officer held a meeting with District Electoral Registration Officer on Monday in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer regarding pre revision activities and rationalization of Polling Stations. The Election Commission of India has issued directives for rationalization of Polling Stations with a view to bring the Polling Stations nearer to smaller habitations for the convenience of voters to exercise their franchise to elect their representatives. The Chief Electoral Officer has directed the District Electoral Registration Officer to have physical verification of all polling stations and submit the proposal for creation of new polling stations as per the criteria prescribed by the Commission. The Chief Electoral Officer also directed the DEROS to convert all the auxiliary Polling Stations into new polling stations in a permanent government building to cover the electors of the area.

The work of Electoral Roll Management System is under process and all the information relating to polling stations, panchayat wards, municipal wards, electoral roll and elector’s photographs etc are to be uploaded in the system. After the completion of these works the electors will be provided with facilities of online enrolment, corrections, transpositions, deletion etc in the electoral roll. In order to segregate ward wise electoral roll in the municipal area, the Chief Electoral Officer has decided to hold a meeting with District Collector, East and representatives of UD & HD Department on 1st June 2012. The Chief Electoral Officer further directed the DEROs to complete the rationalization of Electoral Roll before 15th June, 2012 and proposal of the same should be submitted to this department by 15th June, 2012 without fail.

To invite the suggestion from the registered and recognized political parties for rationalization of polling stations, the Chief Electoral Officer has decided to hold meeting with the representatives of political parties on 6th June, 2012. The Guidelines of the Commission has already been made available to all the political parties.

The Chief Electoral Officer has also directed all the DEROs to attend training and orientation programme scheduled to be organized on 23rd June, 2012 in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer about the operation of Electoral Roll Management System.

The Chief Electoral Officer has also emphasized to give extensive training and orientation to the Booth Level Officers who receives claims and objections forms from the eligible electors so that maximum coverage of enrolment could be achieved.

The Chief Electoral Officer has also directed all the DEROs to collect photographs from non-photo electors in the district and update these photographs in the electoral Roll Management System.

The Chief Electoral Officer has also directed all the DEROs to undertake a pre-revision activities programme under Systematic voter’s education and electoral participation as per the guidelines issued by Election Commission of India which has already made available to them. The Chief Electoral Officer has also directed all the DEROs that they should initiate activities for launching comprehensive SVEEP plan for summary revision of electoral rolls with reference to 01.01.2013 as the qualifying date for 100% registration of all the eligible citizens, particularly the electors between the age group of 18-19 years and also for eliminating the gender gap whenever they called for. The Chief Electoral Officer also informed that the aim of Election Commission of India in making the youth aware of the importance of their duties and right to franchise has been fully implemented in the State and working for the maximum enrollment of youths in the electoral roll and their active participation in the electoral process, in making the universal adult franchise a complete reality, to enhance the quality of Indian Democracy.

    nsider to make my photo clear this time as it was dull in previous one..and was facing problem due to that matter.
