Sikkim: SDF discusses panchayat election at West Pendam

West Pendam, May 21, 2012:

Targeting the upcoming panchayat election, a meeting of the SDF party was held at Saku in West Pendam which had earlier commenced from 15 May from the Rumtek-Martam constituency under East Sikkim.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of party vice president DT Lepcha. Minister Neeru Sewa, vice president Kalawati Subba, Girish Chandra Rai, Mingma Sherpa, Dr DP Kharel, president east district JK Bhandari, youth coordinator AM Prasad Sharma, general secretary (Adm) R Ongmu, Lakila Tongden, Kuberraj Rai, Amosh R Lepcha, coordinator Basant Prasad Lamichaney, secretary (adm) Kalpana Moktan, general secretary SC cell KK Thatal, coordinator SC cell Santosh Thatal and the various party workers along with the panchayats and the chelli morcha were also present.

The meeting proposed that the candidate for the panchayat election will be chosen as per the wishes of the people by the panchayat election committee where the area MLA has lesser role to play, but the candidate chosen should be aware of the party policies and principles.

In the election the contractor, businessman, the members of the cooperative society and the people of the higher post shall not be given the tickets and if so the cooperative members has to resign from their work informed the meeting.

The meeting also informed that the active members from the past three years shall be considered for the party tickets.

If anyone who is capable enough does not get the ticket, he/she shall be taken in the panchayat cell with respect maintained the meeting and also appeal the public for an uncontested election.

The meeting was also addressed by DT Lepcha, Girish Chandra Rai, KK Thatal, JK Bhandari, AM Prasad Sharma, Neeru Sewa, R Ongmu, Kuber Raj Rai and Santosh Thatal. The speakers highlighted the developmental works that has taken place and encouraged the youths to profit from the tourism and capacity buildings programmes.

Nakiya Bhutia, resident of Burdang form the Congress party today joined the SDF.
