International Year of Cooperatives observed in Sikkim

Gangtok, December 10, 2012

The District Level Committee for celebration of International Year of Cooperatives, 2012 organised a Cooperative Awareness Rally from Tadong Sahakari Bhawan to Deorali Government Girls Senior Secondary School on Saturday.

GMC Deputy Mayor Shakti Singh Choudhary flagged off the rally. Members and office bearers of primary Cooperative Societies of East district including students and officials and staffs of Cooperation Department participated in the rally.

The rally was followed by the main event at Girls Senior Secondary School, Deorali where a debate competition on the theme “Cooperative Movement A Success Enterprises” was held between Tareythang MPCS and Padamchey MPCS. The former MPCS who debated in the mover was adjudged as the winner and Padamchey as the runner-up.  Rudra Dulal of Tareythang MPCS bagged the Best Speaker Award.

The Deputy Mayor presented the trophies, certificates and cash award of Rs 5000/- and 2000/- and 1000/- to the winner, runner-up and best speaker respectively.

The mayor also gave away the trophies, certificates and cash awards of Rs 5000/-, 2000/- and 1000/- to the top three students of Painting and Essay Writing Competition which was earlier held on September 16 at Deorali Girls Sr Sec School.


Prize Winner

Pratap Singh Rai, President of West Pandam MPCS bagged the Best Cooperative Leadership Award for his commendable and exemplary leadership towards the cooperative movement in the State.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Mayor highlighted the contribution of cooperatives towards the socio-economic development particularly its impact on the poverty reduction and self-reliance.

Emphasizing on the State Government policy and initiatives in Cooperative Societies in every Gram Panchayat ward, the Deputy Mayor expressed discipline, honesty and accountability are the main factors which pave ways for the success of cooperative movement in Sikkim.

Tulsi Pradhan, Joint Registrar, East presented the welcome address and vote of thanks was delivered by R.D. Lepcha, Sr. Audit Officer.
