Sikkim: Trout Hatchery inaugurated

Gangtok, December 2, 2013

A Trout hatchery cum Demonstration Farm, Rabbit Farm and Conservation of Tibetan Mastiff Dog Centre has been inaugurated by Mr Dawcho Lepcha, Minister of AHLF&VS, at Rabum, Lachen, North Sikkim on November 25, 2013 in the presence of Area MLA Mr T.W. Lepcha.

The Trout Hatchery cum Demonstration Farm is constructed with an estimated amount of Rs. 93,47,346 lakh with the financial assistance of Teesta Urja Stage-III.

The function was attended by Secretary of AHLF&VS Mr D.P Sharma, D.C North, Officers of AHLF&VS Department, Directorate of Fisheries, District Officers and local masses.

The production capacity of the Trout Hatchery is about 5 lakh trout ova. The main objective is to cater the trout seed demands of the local farmers and the remaining to be released in the virgin streams and lakes of Lachung and Lachen Valley and in the Dam created by Teesta Urja at Chungthang in North Sikkim.
