United Sikkim voted as best I-League host

GANGTOK, May 28, 2013

United Sikkim FC has been recognized by the Football Players’ Association of India (FPAI) as the best host among all the 14 I-League clubs for the 2012- 13 season which concluded earlier this month.

In recognition for its impressive hosting of the 13 ILeague matches at home ground Paljor Stadium, United Sikkim was presented the ‘most organized venue’ award during the FPAI Indian Football Awards 2012-13 function at Mumbai on May 23.

AIFF president Praful Patel and Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan gave away the award to United Sikkim coowner Bhaichung Bhutia and senior manager Arjun Rai.

“It is a great honour for United Sikkim as footballers who had come to play in Gangtok voted us as the most organized venue. It is a prestigious award and comes in our first year itself. The recognition was possible only with the support of all those involved in organising our home matches at Paljor Stadium. I thank of all of them and dedicate the award to them”, said Bhaichung.

Footballers vote for the different awards including best player of the year given by the FPAI at the end of every I-League season.

Bhaichung said it was difficult for his club to organize for his club to organize the home matches being a debutant in I-League. With the support of all, we managed to give best hospitality and playing conditions to all the teams who came to play here, he said.

Apart from ensuring best arrangements for away teams coming to Gangtok, United Sikkim also made efforts to give a festive environment to the spectators and players at Paljor Stadium. Almost a every home match saw the famous Snow Lion dance and opportunities were given for local talents to perform.
