SIBLAC on 25th July 2013 lodged an FIR at Phodong Police Station here in North Sikkim with regarding the maintenance of peace and order at Kabi Longtsok as well as its preservation and conservation at all cost.

The organisation alleged that the Departments of Forests, Home, Ecclesiastical Affairs, RM & DD,Tourism, Culture & Heritage and the District Administration (North) held responsible and answerable in case of breach of peaceful environment and law & order problems in the state due to implementation of illegal project at Kabi Longtsok in North Sikkim.

In the FIR, SIBLAC stated that the unpleasant incident occurred recently at holy site of Kabi Longtsok in North Sikkim is the result of illegal and anti-Sikkimese proposed project “Beautification and Development of Kabi-Longtsok in North Sikkim” amounting to Rs. 8,46,43,466.00, which tremendously have disturbed public peace and tranquility.

A former minister and convener of SIBLAC, Tseten Tashi Bhutia stated the concerned administrative bodies of the government are well-informed of the issue. In-fact the officers concerned are individually informed and appraised against the project in the form of public petitions/memorandums and appeals from the monk’s body, not only from the concerned area but from all over Sikkim as well, as the very site Kavi Lungtsok is a matter of concerned of all the people of Sikkim and monks.

SIBLAC mentioned in the FIR that any act of defilement or desecration of this sacred site, in the form of new construction, modification, alteration, beautification or any developmental activity without informing the people of Sikkim shall definitely invite breach of peaceful environment and disturbances in law and order.

It also said that no illegal and unwanted works or activities are carried out at this government notified sacred area under the Places of Worship (Special Provision) ACT, 1991; else it may lead to disturbance of peace and tranquility.

SIBLAC requested the police to inform of any such activities that may or shall be carried out at the sacred location of Kabi-Longtsok in North Sikkim.
