Meeting on ‘dengue’ held in Sikkim

Gangtok, September 4, 2013

Sikkim Chief Secretary R Ongmu convened a meeting on 3rd September 2013 here in the conference hall of the Secretariat with the presence of Home Secretary M.G Kiran, Secretary IPR D. Anandan, D.C (East), Addl SP East along with Dr. Singhi, Principal Director Health Services, Dr. Tshering Laden, Chief Medical Officer East District, Dr. Pramila Giri, State Programme Officer NVBDCP to take an account of the dengue which according to the media reports has been spotted in the low lying areas in the East District especially Rangpo and Singtam recently.

During this meeting Dr. Singhi informed the Chief Secretary that all the reported cases of dengue in the said areas are all mild cases and the condition of those patients are stable, while the hospital in those areas are well equipped to to tackle the situation.

He also informed that cleaning and cleansing of those area has started to destroy all the possible breeding grounds of the dengue mosquito by fogging machine and other disinfectants.

Mrs Ongmu on the other hand showing her concern asked and advised the concerned officials as well as the Home Secretary and D.C East to see that dengue is controlled immediately and not allowed to spread especially in the rural areas.

She further added that low lying places like Melli, Jorethang, Naya Bazar, Mazitar, Legship including the capital city of Gangtok  should also be cleansed and cleaned totally with disinfectants and fogging machine to avoid breeding of any dengue mosquitoes in these areas.

The Chief Secretary further asked the Health officials to work in tandem with the officials from the Urban Development and Housing Department, District Collectorates of all four districts, along with Nagar Panchayats to avoid any possibility of spreading of the disease.

While adding that Testing stations for dengue should be kept in all the above mentioned towns as well as in Namchi.

Meanwhile Dr. Singhi and CMO East Dr. Laden further informed that they have the adequate stock of medicines for the concerned disease and camps are also being conducted in places like Rangpo and Singtam which will also be taken to all four districts of the state.

Testing kits for the said disease are also available in all the hospitals and the situation is well under control and people should not panic, added Dr. Singhi.
