Sikkim’s Woman Football Team to play in National Football Tournament

The Senior Sikkim Woman’s Football Team is all geared up for the upcoming Senior National Woman’s Football Tournament Championship that is scheduled to kick start from April this year at Durg, Chattisgarh.

The twenty team members along with their coach Pema Lhamu and manager Palden Bhutia left today towards their first feature in the Senior National Football championship. It was informed that they had been training at Mangalbarey Senior Secondary School cum Girls Football Academy which was established in the year 2005.

The team was seen off by the ace footballer Bhaichung Bhutia from Paljor Stadium which certainly boosted the morale of the team before the tournament, and his valuable suggestions might come handy for the girls in the upcoming tournament stated manger Palden Bhutia. The secretary sports Mr. Karma P Bhutia and Mr. Dorjee Tamang, member SFA, were also present during the seeing off of the team wishing them good luck.

The Sikkim team would be playing its first match on 25th April 2011 against the mighty Manipuri team and its second match is slated on 27th April 20011 against Bihar. Both the matches would be league and if Sikkim team qualifies they would be playing knockout stages informed Mr. Dorjee Tamang. Bhaichung Bhutia stated, “The Manipuri team are really tough to beat and if Sikkim manages to beat them, then it would be a tremendous achievement”, and “Sikkim will surely beat the Bihar Team easily” added Mr. Bhutia.

The manager of the Senior Sikkim Woman’s Football Team Mr. Palden Bhutia while speaking to the media person said that the team has been training under the careful guidance of the Sikkim Football Association which has been motivating the woman’s team ever since the establishment of the Girls Academy. Mr. Palden Bhutia further added by saying that hopes from the team are sky high ever since the Sikkim Woman’s Team performed exceptionally well in the All India Woman’s Football Championship in the under 19 category held last year at Chandigarh in which the team was able to secure the 3rd position among other 24 teams competing in the said tournament.

It was from this tournament that Nima Lhamu was selected to represent the National team with other few girls who were also among others selected for the National Camp. He further added that Department of Sports and Youth Affairs have also been generous enough to motivate the Woman’s team in every possible way and also requested the Department to cooperate more to achieve greatness in the State Woman’s Football team. The manager further informed that the team has been carefully selected from all four districts and the final selection of the team took place on 14th April 2011. The girls have trained hard for the tournament and if the enthusiasm of the girls remain the same then the girls will definitely go a long way in the game and many have already made up their mind to pursue the game of Football as their career which is a great motivation for the other women of the State who due to conventional thoughts and orthodox mind set hesitate to come forward for the game stated Mr. Palden Bhutia.

    Go Gals go….you can do it…Since long Sikkim had potential players be it boys or gals in all fields but the corrupted govt management never supported sports rather was too keen in putting the Sports fund in their pockets…Wish you All the best Gals!!!
