“SDF defines favouritism and nepotism” G. M. Rai

The ruling Sikkim Democratic Front has lost one of its founder member Mr G. M. Thulung (Rai) to Bharatiya Janata Pary.

Rai formally joined BJP today in a function leaving behind the party for which he had worked for seventeen years and in which he was a member of Constituency Level Committee of Rinchenbong, ward no 27, West Sikkim. Mr Rai has said that there are several reasons behind his decision one of which he said was that the ruling party has not been able to treat all the people of Sikkim as equal irrespective of their political affiliation. The benefits and facilities are also given on the basis of favoritism and the genuine beneficiaries do not get them like the BPL category of people. “In fact, SDF defines favoritism and nepotism”, he added.

On the other hand he said that he is overwhelmed with the principles and activities of the opposition BJP party, who he called a people-centric and ‘for-the-people’ party working for the betterment and welfare of the Sikkimese people at large. The poor people in the state are taken for granted by the ruling party and they are not taken into any consideration.

Further he added that corruption is rampant in all the sections and sectors, one such example is NREGA where corruption has reached its pinnacle. Promising to work against the corruption and misguidance under the Saffron party, he said that he will now work for the benefit of the people in a broader and practical manner, which the ruling party has failed to.

Wrapping up his dissatisfaction, he revealed that some more SDF functionaries would be leaving the party soon, eager to join BJP. Mr. Padam Sharma, General Secretary of BJP, Sikkim unit welcomed the new member of the party with Khada and stated that BJP has now succeeded in winning the confidence of the people as a better choice.
