The technical sub-committee in-charge of Palzor Stadium Thupden Rapgyal informed Sikkim Mail that if it was not for the genuine support by the MR employees, government employees and the local people, then the reconditiong of Palzor stadium ground would not have been possible. Three months before the Governor’s Gold Cup started the condition of ground was pathetic because of the damage caused by monsoon down pour. There were hardly two months in the hands of the Gold Cup organizers for the upkeep of the ground.
When asked about the reason for the delay in this year’s tournament Mr. Rapgyal pointed out the condition of the playgroud as the main reason for the delay apart from the guidelines of AIFA to SFA for the Governor’s Gold Cup tournament.
Mr. Rapgyal expressed great satisfaction for the positive response from the public during the match. Recalling the sparse public that had turned up for the first few matches he added that in the later half people were present in good numbers. Nepali teams drew large number of spectators.
SFA organizes the prestigious All India Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament at Gangtok and All India Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Football Tournament at Namchi. As AIGGC attracts several top teams of the country, this tournament has become the grandest show of the year.
