If everything goes well, India’s 2nd National Institute of Design (NID) will soon be operational in Jorhat, Assam. Assam CM Tarun Gogoi met Industry Minister Anand Sharma in New Delhi on Monday to push forward the case of NID project in Jorhat. Mr. Sharma had said on May 22 this year that the Central Government has decided to establish a NID at Jorhat. An official from the Ministry Mr. V Bhaskar, IAS, Joint Secretary also visited Jorhat on 31st May, 2010 to finalize the identified plots of land along with an official from NID, Ahmadabad.
Once operational, this will be the first of the four Institutes of Design which are coming up and the second apart from the only one which exists in Ahmadabad. The Institute of Global Excellence will be coming up with an investment of Rs. 150 crores and will graduate over 1000 students in a few years time.
The setting up of a NID in Assam is expected to lend a fillip to the aspirations of the youth of all the north-eastern states including Sikkim. Jorhat is around 890 KMs from Gangtok and the distance can be covered in less than 3 hours by aeroplane.
Is Delhi Police friendly towards the people of North East states?
