To boost tourism in Sikkim, the department of Tourism has received Rs120 crores from the Asian Devleopment Bank for development of Sikkim’s tourism infrastructure. The money will be utilized for the development of infrastructure in tourism sector.
Bhim Prasad Dhungel, Minister for Tourism and Forest department asserted that plans are in place to construct double lane road from Ranka to Rumtek Phatak, and the Chemchey to Damthang road near Namchi.
He mentioned that the department will also renovate the old monastery at Pelling and also to clean the monastery premises. With the inflow of lot of tourist Rumtek will get a multipurpose car parking lot. The construction will start soon. The efforts are also being made to develop the Singalila trekking route and plans of constructing a trekkers hut at Singalila is also in the map.
Minister further said that they are confident that all the plans will be completed within the next 4 years.
The State Government has approved the budget of Rs 2 crore for development of tourism infrastructure at Samdruptse, where a car parking and eight eco huts would be constructed.
The minister believes that without the participation of local people in the infrastructure development, the progress would remain incomplete. Government is making all its efforts to bring in the people’s participation for the development of tourism sector in Sikkim.
