Gangtok, Jan. 1, 2011:

Former Vice President of Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC) KN Upreti today called a press conference to address about the division of Congress party in the state.

Mr. Upreti said that there are many Congress supporters across the State who are still confused about the party division that took place recently and after reading the released leaflet all confusion amongst the supporters will be cleared.

SPCC President Nar Bahadur Bhandari had alleged the co member of the party to be holding good relation with the ruling Government and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling. Mr. Upreti alleged that Mr. Bhandari has no interest in party but in holding the post of the President for his own vested interests. After 2009 general election Mr. Bhandari had announced to resign from the post of President but has changed his stand.

About corruption charges against CM Pawan Chamling and his Ministers Mr. Upreti stated that the investigation should be free and fair and if the CM is clean he should allow CBI inquiry. Mr. Upreti has put forward seven demands like appointment of a working president, elected along with parliamentary body consisting of thirteen members to be created, President of SPCC should be able and preferably young, central fund to be deposited as party fund, party office must be separated from the residence of Mr. Bhandari and finally the decision on any party activity should be on majority basis rather than by a single person.

Reacting to Mr. Upreti’s statement Mr. Bhandari said Upreti and his colleagues are puppets of CM Pawan Chamling. “I have been elected the President as per the constitution of the party and not illegally. I have been elected in the post of president ship in SPCC considering the 2014 general election which needs to be lead under my guidance in the state”. Mr. Bhandari concluded by saying that Mr. Upreti is no more the part of SPCC and questioned that from which stand Mr. Upreti is questioning his duties and rights as SPCC President and demanded a clarification.
