15th February was the birthday of Sikkim’s own star player Bhaichung bhutia, who was born on this day in the year 1976. Bhaichung who is an Indian Footballer and the skipper of National Team is also the Chief Patron of United Sporting Sikkim Club (USSC).
Bhaichung however has not only earned name and fame through his game but has been able to win the hearts of his people and he also undertakes many activities for the people which enderas him even more. One such dream that he shares with hundreds of budding players from the State is the establishment of a football academy here in the state, for the budding players, talents where the academy promises to provide the best coaching along with training facilities to football talents of the state. Mr. Bhaichung states that his dream will get fulfilled only after Sikkim gets two football grounds one with artificial turf and the other with natural grass cover.
Sikkimese striker has always stated that the youngsters with extraordinary skill will be trained in a proper way in the academy to produce more players for the national team. Mr. Bhutia who is on a break here in the state for few days is much excited about the academy. “Well, it’s been a year since the proposal on the academy had been submitted to the Chief Minister of Sikkim by the General Secretary of United Sporting Sikkim Club (USSC), Mr. Arjun Rai on my behalf but the outcome is still awaited” said the star player.
Mr. Arjun Rai addressing the media said that the state government has already sanctioned a land for the academy at Namchi but the club wants to develop the academy at Pakyong. Adding further Mr. Rai said that “We all are planning to set a meeting with the Chief Minister regarding the demand at Pakyong, but we are not fully sure that when the meeting will be scheduled”.
Sikkim Football Association (SFA) is committed for the development and growth of football in the state, which in the near future would feed the country with its talented players in the National team.
