The outlay has increased by Rs 1,355 crore over 2010-11 to support ongoing schemes in health, education and industries sector
Guwahati: The Annual Plan outlay for Assam for the year 2010-11 has been approved by the centre which is Rs 9,000 crore.
The outlay, which is an increase of Rs 1,355 crore over 2010-11 was approved at a meeting between the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in New Delhi.
Of Rs 9,000 crore, Rs 6,286 crore is central assistance and state will have to provide Rs 2,714 crore from its own resources.
Ahluwalia in the meeting said that the state was making appreciable effort to improve growth and focus on agriculture with the objective of achieving self sufficiency in food.
He said the State needs to improve focus on industry sector. Efforts to encourage private partnership should continue. He said infrastructure gaps can be bridged much faster with investor-friendly approach.
Ahluwalia said as part of exercise aimed at further involving States in evolving approach for the 12th Plan; the Commission was holding consultations with the States.
He also urged that the State Governments should also review the ongoing schemes with the purpose of weeding out schemes which have outlived utility.
He said this would facilitate improving funding to the schemes which have worked well and also give margin to introduce new schemes. The plan for infrastructure development in North East would be put on firm track during the 12th plan, he added.
Briefing the Commission on the plan performance of the State and also on strategy to expedite development, Gogoi said that social sector would continue to get priority. Employment generation would be focus of industrial development. With this objective small and medium size industry would be given priority.
He said focussed attention being given to education; health and agriculture have started showing results. He said various initiative taken recently have led to the creation of PPP enabling environment for rapid industrialisation and creation of physical infrastructure.
