Gangtok, June 8:
The Congress High Command has revoked the expulsion order of K N Upreti, an ex-Minister and senior vice president of the Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee, and six others who had been expelled by the state unit in March this year. A communication received from the party high command said the expulsions were revoked and the all these members “shall continue to be members of the Congress party”. The order was issued by the Congress incharge for Sikkim, Luizinho Paleiro to SPCC president Nar Bahadur Bhandari, with copies marked to the seven expelled SPCC members. Welcoming the latest development, Upreti said that the expulsions were “illegal and arbitrary”. “Authoritarian functioning cannot be tolerated,”, Upreti said in a press release today.
There had been a series of cross allegations between the Upreti and Bhandari camp in recent times. The party was literally divided in Sikkim. Upreti recently called a press conference to address about the division of Congress party in the state and said that there are many Congress supporters across the State who are still confused about the party division that took place recently.
SPCC President Nar Bahadur Bhandari had alleged the co member of the party to be holding good relation with the ruling Government and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling. Mr. Upreti alleged that Mr. Bhandari has no interest in party but in holding the post of the President for his own vested interests. After 2009 general election Mr. Bhandari had announced to resign from the post of President but he later changed his stand.
