The prestigious award “Adventurer of the Year 2011” was presented to Everester Anshu Jamsenpa by J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in a jam packed SKCC Srinagar recently. The award function was attended by J&K Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzen Jora, R H Khwaja Secretary Tourism Govt of India and over 400 adventure tourism delegates from India and abroad. It is for the first time that an adventure sports personality from North East has won this highly coveted award.
The award function was followed by felicitation programme at Leh on 17 Sept organised by All Ladakh Tour Operators Association (ALTOA). Speaking on the occasion Tsering Namgyal President ALTOA said that the
achievement of Anshu Jamsenpa is worthy of a grand salute. He further added that it will take quite some time before any other mountaineer can even think of attempting to break her record. The soft spoken
Arunachalee mountaineer while acknowledging with a broad smile said that she is thankful to one and all for the love, appreciation and ecognization. She especially thanked the J&K Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzen Jora who hoisted the Ladakh tour.
In Delhi she was felicitated by Justice Anil Dave, Hon’ble Judge, Supreme Court of India. Justice Dave, a strong proponent of adventure movement in Indian sub continent stated that he is extremely happy to
meet Anshu who has made the whole of India proud.
Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) also organized a felicitation programme on 18th Sept which was attended by Council members from different States of India. Dr Harish K Saxena National Chairman read out the congratulatory message on behalf of YHAI and bestowed her with Honorary Life Member of YHAI amidst huge applause.
On her way back to North East she was felicitated by Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) at Shillong on 23 Sept. B M Lanong Dy Chief Minister of Meghalaya spoke highly of Anshu and praised her die hard adventurous
spirit. He said that she had carved a niche for herself in the field of mountaineering through her hard work, commitment and dedication. Dean Thompson, Consul General of USA who was also present during the
felicitation congratulated her and said that it’s an amazing feat for a mother of two to summit Mt Everest twice in 10 days.
