As a part of the relief exercise, Minister HRDD, NK Pradhan accompanied by Secretary Agriculture and Horticulture, Vishal Chauhan who have been designated as in-charge of the east district to coordinate relief works, paid a visit to Nandok and surroundings areas in the afternoon of 24th September 2011 to take
stock of damages caused by massive quake that rocked the entire himalayan region in the evening of 18th September, 2011 informs a press release.
The damages at Nandok are more due to landslides resulting as aftermath of the quake. The entire village is badly affected by landslides caused by water leakage due to bursting of water pipe triggered by the quake. Almost all the houses have been damaged in various degrees. Even though the public seem to be extremely traumatized by the event, they expressed happiness and satisfaction over the progress of relief work that is going on at the moment.
Expressing full confidence in government machinery, the people have expressed hope that the restoration work would be completed at the earliest. The team also met the effected victims in relief camps put up at two to three locations in the area. While lauding the efforts put in by various departments in restoring normalcy, the Minister assured the people of all possible help from the government. He further assured the people that immediate action would be taken up to relocate the damaged schools so that classes can be resumed as early as possible. The Secretary of Agriculture and Horticulture, Chauhan has assured the people that land terracing activity would be taken up in a massive scale by agriculture department in all affected areas.
