Gangtok: Lt. Dr Sarvapalli Radha Krishnan birth anniversary on 5th September is celebrated as Teacher’s Day in the Country. In Sikkim, a State level function was held to mark the birth anniversary of Lt. Dr S. Radhakrisnan organized by Human Resource Development Department at the Chintan Bhawan, today. The programme began with the lighting of lamp at the portrait of Lt. Dr S. Radha Krisnan by the Chief Minister, Mr Pawan Chamling and other dignitaries on the dais.
The programme also saw the presentation of State Award to the teachers for their recognition of dedication and hardwork. The Chief Minister Mr Pawan Chamling handed over the awards to these awardees. The awardess were Mr. K.B. Subba, Primary Teacher, language Mukrung Sec. School and Mr. P.D. Rai H.M. Rumbuk Jr. High School from the west district. Mr Sonam Tshering Lepcha, HM, Malling Pry. School. And Mr Tenzong Lepcha, Pry Teacher Labi –Rang dam Pry.School from north district. Mr P.L. Sharma, HM Rong Sec School and Mr Suk Tshering, Pry. Teacher, Sripadam Jr. High School from south district. Mrs. Mrs. Ranjana Pradhan G.T. Deorali Sr. Sec School and Mr Pemba Tshering Bhutia, Pry Teacher Sonamati Memorial Sec. School from east district.
The commendation award were conferred to Mrs. Leda Lepcha- Pry Teacher Taryak Pry.School, Mr S.W. Sebastin,HM Tingbong Sec. School and Mr R.A. Pandit – GT. Maths. Lachung Sec School from the north district. From south district Mrs. Tshering Doma Bhutia ,Pry Teacher Temi Jr. High School, Mr Janga Bahadur Thapa, Pry Teacher Burul Jr. High School and Mrs. Nirulata Rumba Pry.Teacher. Namchi New Sec. School. From west district, Mr Radhay Lal G.T. maths Timburbong S.S, Mr. N.S. Chettri PGT, Tashiding Sr. Sec. School, Mr P.T. Sherpa HM Bareng Pry.School and Mr Chatra Singh Chettri Pry. Teacher. Khecheopalri S.S. From east district the awardees were Mr. Deo Kr Pradhan, Pry Teacher Rhenock S. Sec School, Mrs. Pema Chaki Sherpa – G.T Lingtam Sec. School, Mr. Lakpa Tsh. Lepcha- H.M. Barbing Pry School and Tshering Dorjee Bhutia, Pry Teacher. Pabyuik Sec School.
The best performing school from the Government and private sector were bagged by Kyi-De-Khang Sec. school and Melli Gumpa, Sec. School South Sikkim.
Conveying his greetings to the teachers on the occasion, the Chief Minister stated that teachers should be the guide and philosopher in shaping the future of students. ‘Professional and inspirational are two types of teachers’ said the Chief Minister and he also draws the reference of the contributions and inspiration made by the leaders like Abraham Lincoln, Karl Marx to the present world. He added that the world needs good people and ideal citizens and it is created through the commitment, hard work and sincerity. Therefore, teachers are entrusted with huge responsibilities of creating ideal citizens in order to build up a healthy society. He also called upon the teachers to provide value-based education, so that the students could prove as an asset of the society. ‘If our people are not empowered and capable, the State cannot prosper’ said the Chief Minister and added that the teachers should be responsible in providing good education to the students so that the immense potential of the children could come out in the State building process.
Explaining the development that has taken place in the education sector, the Chief Minister mentioned that the development has taken place only through the contribution made by the teachers, whereas, the Government is only the policy maker. Besides, he also asked them to be responsible and accountable enough in every sphere of life. The Chief Minister also suggested them to work for the better ment of the society and also solicited the contributions from their respective areas to make Sikkim drugs free.
While reiterating the demands that have been sanctioned during the recent village to village tour, the Chief Minister informed the gathering that playground, toilet facilities, auditorium hall, school buildings will be provided and from September onwards the works will also commence.
Later, the vote of thanks was proposed by Director, Technical Education.

sikkim govt. pawan chamling not justified with bihari teacher. Bihari teacher in sikkim are the heart of education building among students. Eventhough they are NOT nominated with state award or national award. But local teachers are nominated with this prestigious award….they don’ have knowledge about their subjects and 0% knowledge about how to teach …………this is shamless for sikkim
sikkim is part of india BUT they don’t behave good with outsiders in sikkim………
