Gangtok: Due to devastating earthquake of September 18 in Sikkim, the water supply Gangtok Municipal Area has been completely damaged by landslides. Seven pipelines of various sizes were damaged in earthquake and then washed away in the heavy rain that followed according to the state’s Water Security and Public Health Engineering Department.
Three 6” pipe lines have been restored from local source for Gangtok Water Supply System. However, currently regular supply is being made available to hospitals only.
The department has assessed damages in several locations. Further, man and machineries have been deployed to restore the pipe lines temporarily on war-footing.
The department has said that the supply of drinking water shall be made available once on alteranate days. The department has requested the public to bear with the situation.
The water supply system has also been affected in other towns and efforts are being made to restore the supply.
The water supply distribution of Gangtok Municipal Corporation has been rescheduled temporarily, which shall be available every morning as under:
