Department of Forest Environment and Wildlife Management (DFEWLM) in collaboration with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) observed the International Ozone Day by taking out an awareness rally here in the capital on Friday.
The rally taken out highlighted the efforts to be carried out by every individual in protecting the ozone layer. Students from eight schools of Gangtok and the surrounding areas participated in the rally. The participating students were carrying banners and posters in their hands,
displaying the reason behind observing the World Ozone Day.
“The celebration of this day is made to pay our homage to the ozone layer that saves our earth from the harmful ultra-violet radiation of the Sun” informed DFO Suraj Thatal addressing media.
The rally was flagged off by the Chairman DFEWLM TR Poudyal in presence of the Secretary DFEWLM NT Bhutia from Deorali, Forest Secretariat. The rally ended near Denzong Cinema Hall.
The participating students also made the people aware on the depletion of ozone layer. ‘Kala Multi Media Center’ also performed a one act play base on the theme ‘Ozone Layer’ to educate the citizens and to cater awareness.
