Governor of Sikkim Balmiki Prasad Singh would inaugurate SAARC Folklore and Heritage festival in Agra on September 30. Artistes from SAARC countries would showcase their culture with traditional dances and music at the fourth SAARC Folklore and Heritage festival. Performers from SAARC countries would entertain with their traditional dances and songs during the three-day festival. President of the Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature Ajeet Kaur said the event was aimed at rekindling the shared cultural experience of the region. Governor of Sikkim Balmiki Prasad Singh would inaugurate the festival and the Sri Lankan High Commissioner Prasad Kariya would deliver the keynote address, she said.
The main workshops, including academic seminars and poetry recital, will be held at hotel Grand, while folk performances will be held at St. Peter’s College auditorium, local media coordinator for the foundation Vivek Jain said Wednesday.
While India will have the largest contingent of performers with 10 teams, Pakistan, Bhutan, the Maldives, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal will send one team each. Sri Lanka will be sending two groups. These nations together make up the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) regional grouping.
