An Awareness Programme on Vector Borne Disease was organized by Department of Health Care and Family Welfare, South District at Wok, Primary Health Sub Centre, which comes under Poklok Kamrang constituency, which is also the home constituency of the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.
A disease that is transmitted to humans or other animals by an insect or other arthropod is called a vector-borne disease. Some species of mosquitoes and ticks are able to transmit viruses, rickettsiae, bacteria, or parasites to humans. Examples of tick-borne diseases are ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Lyme disease, and tularemia. Example of mosquito-borne diseases is malaria.
Health Educator, Roshini Thapa of Jorethang Primary Health Centre conducted this programme and educated the people and the students from the area about the vector borne diseases and its preventive measure.
She also conducted a quiz about the same and the winners were awarded with small gifts.
In the same venue C.A.T.C.H programme was also organized and more than 200 people were screened under the supervision of Dr. Solomit Lepcha, Medical Officer In charge Jorethang P.H.C
During the programme Medical Mobile Unit also provided the people with lab tests.
Besides minor ailments people from the area were found to be fairly healthy and they were also provided with medicines like calcium and iron tablets.
