Sikkim takes stock of the damages caused by Sep. 18 quake

The earthquake which hit the state on 18th September 2011 has severely damaged the infrastructures of the state.

Total numbers of 53172 houses have been damaged in the state. Total numbers of 642 schools of the state have been damaged. The figure includes major damage, minor damage and totally collapsed schools. Temporary sheds have already already been constructed in 30% of the schools and the HRDD is constructing additional temporary sheds in the schools where ever it is required. The schools of the state are running as usual.

Total number of 53 relief Camps have been established in the state in which there are1154 inmates. The relief Camps will be for a maximum period of 60 days from the date of earthquake and time extension will be done on monthly basis for the relief camps set up in the worst affected areas of disaster.

Evacuation Notices have been issued to 57 houses by the government.
Demolition Orders have been issued to 12 buildings by the Government.
The State Government has requisitioned for 510 prefabricated houses from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Out of these 510 houses 250 are for Chungthang, 200 for Mangan, 10 for Ravangla and 50 houses for West Sikkim. Two houses have already been reached North and have been established at Mangan and Upper Dzongu.

Total numbers of above 300 sorties were undertaken by the Army, Pawan Hans and Teesta Urja Helicoptors to the affected areas
