The State Disaster Management Team in coordination with Tourism and Civil Aviation Department (T&CAD) and State Transport Development Corporation (STDC) are all set to felicitate six captains of Pawan Hans Helicopter Service, who rendered their best of service during earthquake for relief and rescue operation selflessly in North Sikkim starting from 21st of September to 18th of October, 2011.

The captains to be felicitated are Captain Vishal K, Captain A Opel, Captain PS Sahi (Retd Brigadier), Captain Ranbir Ray, Captain JP Singh, Captain G Kurivilla and Captain S Rao respectively. All the captains since 21st of September till October 18, 2011 carried out rescue and relief operation in north Sikkim not even bothering the weather condition.

As per the information received from STDC the total numbers of 394sorties were operated since 21st September till 18th October, 2011 for relief and rescue purposes. During the sorties, number of casualties, sick persons were flown to Gangtok from north district including doctors, officials and technicians which
were dropped to north Sikkim. Furthermore, under relief materials air dropped using heli service to north Sikkim was of 17220 kilograms.

STDC in the rescue and relief operation during earthquake utilized a total of three helicopters namely VT-PHD, VT-PHE and VT-PHU, out of which two is of Pawan Hans Helicopters Limited, is informed.
VT-PHD helicopter air dropped a total relief material amounting to 8071kg like wise VT-PHE carried materials weighing 6579kg and VT-PHE helicopter only 2264kg during their service rendered to north district.

Furthermore it is informed that VT-PHE helicopter was used by STDC during crisis as the said helicopter does not belong to STDC rather to a company operating in State but the service provided by the helicopter was immense during such emergency added an official of STDC.
