The eminent litterateurs and social workers from across the districts have been felicitated here in a function organized by Lee Aal, Old Age Home at Turung in South Sikkim on December 20, 2011.
The function was graced by Mohan Pradhan Niraj, Litterateur as the chief guest and Prahlad Gurung, contractor cum social worker and Lhaki Bhutia, Member Women Commission as special guests.
The eminent litterateurs and social workers who have contributed to the society in different fields were felicitated during the day.
The awardees were Albert Gurung in videography, Mohan Pradhan Niraj litterateur, Kapilmani Adhikari littérateur, Lhaki Bhutia social
worker, Chungchung Tongden Lepcha, social worker, Thaman Naubagh litterateur, Nandu Dutraj journalist, Ranju Mukhia actress cum social worker, Rohini Gurung social worker and the NGO Dikchu Youth Welfare Association from the East District has been felicitated.
Similarly, Topden Lepcha social worker, Mingma Dendup Sherpa social worker and Pratap Gurung social worker from South District were felicitated. Likewise, Khina Maya Sharma social worker, Saraswati Rai actress cum social worker and Nar Bahadur Gurung artist cum social worker from West District were also felicitated.
The awardees were conferred with the letter of felicitation from the chief guest. In her welcome speech, Passangkit Lepcha President, Lee Aal highlighted about the activities of Lee Aal. The member of Women Commission, Ms. Lhaki Bhutia highlighted that there are different schemes being provided by the government for the welfare of the senior citizens but many of the senior citizens are not secure with their family members and some are destitute who really needs care. She also appreciated Lee Aal who are working under the guidance of Passangkit Lepcha.
The chief guest in his speech congratulated the awardees and urged to continue their service in the social activities.
The function concluded with the vote of thanks being delivered by Sangeeta Kharel, member Lee Aal and the function was conducted by Vikash Pradhan.
The function was also attended by President Singtam Newar Kalyan Sangathan TB Pradhan, Rangpo Nagar Panchayat Assistant Rohini Gurung representatives of different NGOs and the social workers.
Lee Aal in Lepcha means a “new home” which has been founded by Passangkit Lepcha and other members here at Turung in south Sikkim.
At present there are 11 destitute senior citizens above sixty years who don’t have their relatives to look after them.
