Namchi December 8, 2011: The department of Sports and Youth Affairs , Government of Sikkim has launched another round of ’Search for more Bhaichung’ for the 14th year in a row. The scheme was launched in the year 1998. Even during the first screening more than 6,000 boys from all over the state participated. 30 most talented boys were selected for admission in Namchi Sports Hostel, at Namchi, South Sikkim. Nirmal Chettri who made it to the national football team recently is also one of them.

In the ongoing hunt for talented players and select boys for admission to Namchi Sports Hostel and Sports Academy at Gangtok, the department has finalized the following schedule for conducting District Level Selection trials:

1) District Level Selection trial at Gyalshing, Kyongsa ground on 24th and
25th December 2011 (9am to 4pm)
2) District Level Selection trial at Mangan on 3rd and 4th January 2012.
3) District Level Selection trial at Palzor Stadium, Gangtok on 24th and
25th December 2011 (9am to 4pm)
4) District Level Selection trial at Namchi, Bhaichung Stadium on 30th and
31st December 2011 (9am to 4 pm)

Eligibility: All boys who are below 14years of age (10 yrs to 14 yrs) for Namchi Sports Hostel and below 19 years of age (15 yrs to 19 yrs) for Sports Academy, Gangtok) are eligible to participate in selection at the centers mentioned above. Birth Certificate issued by the Bureau of Economics and Statistic Department, Government of Sikkim will be considered authentic and should be produced at the center during the days of trial. The final selection trial will be held at Namchi Bhaichung Stadium and if selected they will be admitted to Namchi Sports Hostel and Sports Academy Gangtok. The department will offer free boarding and lodging, Sports kits, etc. However parents are required to provide stationeries, books, admission and other school fees for their ward. No TA/DA shall be paid for attending the selection trial.
