Sikkim is heated with cold waves following the rainfall and cold wind since Sunday January 1, 2012. On Sunday, the minimum temperature remained at 4 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature stood at 15 degrees Celsius. Heavy snowfall is reported in North Sikkim particularly in and around Nathula Bye-Pass and Tsomo areas. The weather was cloudy during the day and most of the people preferred to stay in their houses.
However, during the day, people were walking on the M.G. Marg wearing warm clothes like sweaters, caps, hand gloves etc. The people were basking on the firewood to save their bodies from severe cold.
According to Metrological Department the cold winds in Sikkim will continue due to western disturbance of the climatic condition. And the minimum temperature in upcoming days could go up to 0 degree Celsius accompanied by a downfall in maximum temperature too.
Metrological Department has also predicted that 9th, 10th and 11th could be the coldest days in upcoming weeks as during these days minimum temperature is believed to go below 0 Degree Celsius.
For those who has not recovered from the loss done by massive earthquake in September it’s going to be really hard to save themselves. If the maximum temperature plunged in the days to come, the chill will be more strongly felt.
So if the predictions went right then people of Sikkim will surely be seen bundled up in warm gear as they prepared to battle the winter chill.
