Gangtok, March 17: The Chief Minister Pawan Chamling inaugurated the annual flower show hosted at the Flower Exhibition Centre in the Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal Memorial Park organized by the Sikkim Flower Show Commitee. The inaugural session also witnessed the presence of Speaker SLA, Cabinet Ministers, senior Government officials and students in and around Gangtok. The students were given free pass to give them first hand experience on the various varieties of cymbidiums and other seasonal flowers.

Varieties of orchid along with seasonal flowering plants are in the display at the exhibition. The maximum participants in the competition are local plant growers from Assam Lingzey area, Samdur, Pakyong along with the Development Women’s Co-operative Society, Sikkim and Orchid Valley (a unit of green wood plantation) Darjeeling and Orchid growers from Mirik, West Bengal.

The judgement of the display was done on March 16th by a committee of judges comprising of eminent plant experts on the basis of plants health, numbers of varieties, artistic arrangement and new introductions.

The Flower show was first held at Loop Garden in North Sikkim during the year 1963 is now a regular feature and is managed by the flower show committee with the help of staff and the Department of Horticulture.
