Tourism Department of Sikkim is organizing five day long Tourism Carnival Fest in the State scheduled to start from 11th till 15th May 2012, said Secretary of Tourism Department, R.Telang, further informing that the decision to observe the five day long fest was taken after the final meeting on 5th April under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Pawan Chamling.
This Fest will be celebrated across the state and it aims to attract tourists back to Sikkim. Highlighting on their plans about the carnival events he mentioned the fest will see different types of cultural performances, adventurous events, exhibition, etc. in all the districts and tourist spots like Chaardham, Tsongmo Lake.
“Cultural troops from all across the country have been invited in the carnival. Bhajan Sandhya to be held in Chaardham along with other events like one kilometer long yak safari in the premises of Tsongmo lake ,mountain biking and paragliding in west Sikkim are being organized”, he elaborated.
The Carnival will also witness the 17th Mountain Division’s presentation of military tattoo, dog squad martial fight, aerial show, flower exhibition and traditional food exhibition.
Similarly Brass Band group of 17th Mountain Division will present cultural programme in collaboration with Cultural Department, Government of Sikkim on 12th April in the capital itself, he said.
He further mentioned about the support of all the departments in endeavoring to make the fest a big success for which they had already contacted other Departments.
With Dhami Jhakri’s demonstration included in the fest, the Tourism Department strives to promote and preserve local and traditional culture.
