Death Anniversary of the former Prime Minister of India, Late Smt Indira Gandhi was observed as Rastriya Sankalpa Diwas at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok today.
The chief guest of the function Chief Minister Pawan Chamling during his address said that Rastriya Sankalpa Diwas is not only to commemorate the death of Late Smt Indira Gandhi but to aware the people about the contribution of Late Indira Gandhi in her fight against terrorism and development of the country. While elaborating on the life and achievements of Late Smt Indira Gandhi, the Chief Minister said Indira Gandhi was not only a national leader but a leader of international stature.
Talking about the various aspects of Political Extremism and elaborating on the terrorist outfits present in the various parts of the country, the Chief Minister said that Sikkim is free from the clutches of any form of Political Extremism till date and it is for the people of the state to maintain it. The biggest development of the state is that the state is free from terrorism, the Chief Minister added.
Earlier, programme started with lighting of butter lamp and offering of scarves and garland on the potrait of Late Smt Indira Gandhi followed by prayers by priests of different religious faith.
The students of Enchey Senior Sec School and Tashi Namgyal Sr Sec School also presented beautiful patriotic songs.
