New Delhi, December 6, 2012

The father of former Indian football captain Baichung Bhutia, Sonam Topden Bhutia passed away on Thursday morning at his residence in Tinkitam, South Sikkim. He was 73. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter, says the official Facebook page of United Sikkim Football Club.

The CEO of United Sikkim FC Baichung Bhutia, who was in Delhi on Wednesday regarding club related matters, cancelled his Gangtok return and has proceeded towards Tinkitam straight from Bagdogra today.

All the players and staff members of United Sikkim FC express their deep condolences to Bhaichung and his family at their hour of bereavement.
