A team of doctors, who are looking after the rape-victim, in Safdarjung hospital termed her a “brave girl”. The 23-year-old paramedical student underwent abdominal surgery, in which doctors removed the gangrenous small intestine here in Safdarjung hospital on Wednesday. This was the fifth surgery after she has been admitted in ICU.
The victim is now trying hard to forget the ‘trauma’ and doctors are helping her to overcome it.
“She is fighting it out. We are hopeful that she would come out of it,” said Dr Mishra, who works on the trauma management plan for the victim.
Doctors said her kidneys, lungs, heart are doing well. They said there are no muscular or lower limb injuries but our main concern is that the victim should come out of the trauma.
Till today she could not speak nor move easily, she gave a written statement on Wednesday to police explaining her ordeal of the fateful Sunday night.
The victim and her friend boarded a chartered bus at Munirka on December 16, which is said to be going towards Dwarka. The girl was molested, assaulted and raped inside the bus by 6 men. When the girl resisted she was hit with a blunt object by the accused. The victim’s friend, who tried to save her, was also severely beaten. Both of them were later thrown out of the bus near Mahipalpur. The incident occurred at around 9.30pm.
Police arrested the main accused Ram Singh (bus driver), his brother Mukesh (who was driving the bus when the rape took place), Vinay Sharma (gym instructor) and Pawan Gupta (fruit seller). Both the brothers Ram Singh and Mukesh have previous criminal records. All the accused lived in RK Puram in New Delhi and the bus has been traced in RK Puram Sector 3. One of the absconding accused identified as Akshay Thakur, is on the run, police said.
Doctors told media during the conference that the victim is in good spirits, she is alert and conscious. She is a brave girl and withstanding all the treatments since the day of her assault. However, the doctors refused to comment on the nature of injuries bored by the victim.
Doctors said she is surviving on total parental nutrition (TPN). TPN is used when a patient cannot eat. It is usually drip through a needle in vein.
The people of Delhi are in cross-fingers and the whole country is praying for her.
The most concern of the victim at the moment is ‘her survival’.
Is Delhi Police friendly towards the people of North East states?
