Singer Udit Narayan and ‘India’s Got Talent’ finalist Deepraj Rai will share a stage in the upcoming Maghe Mela festival, one of Sikkim’s oldest fairs that takes place annually in Jorethang.
A meeting of the celebration committee was held yesterday at Jorethang Bazaar under the chairmanship of KN Rai, political secretary to Sikkim Chief Minister. The meeting
also decided to form a disaster preparedness committee, which would act during any kind of emergencies during the three days long festival.
The area MLA Madan Cintury said that Jorethang Maghe Mela is not only a festival of joy but also an opportunity for many rural skilled persons to showcase their talents and to earn. He informed that ‘SARAS Mela’ that enable rural artisans to display their wares, would also be held on the sideline of Maghe Mela.
Speaking at the meeting, KN Rai said that the Mela has its own importance and everyone should put an effort to spread the message of the festival outside the State. He said more rural sports should be organised during the event so that the hidden sporting talents also gets the opportunity to showcase their sporting skills. At the same time, Rai welcomed ideas, suggestions and cooperation in making the festival successful.
