Chief Minister Pawan Chamling laid the foundation stone of Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Sikkim (EPCS) Church in the compound of Palzor Namgyal Senior Secondary School (PNGSS) here in the capital today.
Mr. Chamling and his government have always given equal importance, value, respect, safety and security to all the faith and religions in the state while making him a truly secular leader.
After the ceremony while addressing the gathering Mr. Chamling expressed his happiness and hoped that this EPCS church will be a good one and will be an asset for the state, and ensured economical, financial, and moral support to the church from his government.
A mild quake (measuring 5.3 in the rector scale) which punctuated the programme, the Chief Minister referring to the quake said that this is a natural calamity, but the state is well equipped in all respect to face any situation, and appealed the people to stay calm, cool and collected in the situation and avoid getting panic.
We’ve have given equal rights and opportunities to everyone in the state which has resulted in uniform development, in the state, he informed and also reiterated that the people should take collective responsibility and take active participation to usher Sikkim towards the path of progress.
During the function the Chief Minister also announced a grant in aide of Rs 51 Lakhs to Paljor Namgyal Senior Secondary School, to pay the arrear of the teachers and also announced that the XI and XII students of PNGSS will also receive the Lap Top computers from the government for which he asked the principal to meet the HRDD Secretary.
The Principal of PNGSS had earlier requested for these two demands, and Mr. Chamling was quick to grant both of them.
The function also saw the Chief Minister presented with a gratitude letter by the EPCS and the Principal of PNGSS for his good governance, leadership and all his co-operations.
Earlier, Patron, Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony Committee and MLA Mr. Menlom Lepcha who also addressed the gathering thanked Mr. Chamling, his good governance and his visions and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to him and also informed that it was the idea and decision of Mr. Pawan Chamling to have a new Church in Gangtok.
A short Documentary on Sikkim and EPCS was also shown during the function which rounded off with a prayer by the moderator EPCS.
