Special Handloom Expo 2013 begins in Sikkim

Gangtok, October 21, 2013

Mrs. Nim Yethenpa, Development Commissioner cum Secretary D.P.E.R & NEC Affairs inaugurated the Special Handloom Expo 2013 today organised by Sikkim Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd (SHHDC) at its premises sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner Handloom, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

After inaugurating the expo the Development Commissioner visited all the displayed stalls from various weavers, Self Help Groups and Cooperative Societies from Manipur, Kolkata, Guwahati, Coach Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and all districts of Sikkim.

The expo has display of live craft demonstration, theme pavilion display of different handloom products including integrated Handloom Development Scheme product from different parts of Sikkim. The Commissioner also interacted with the participants and expressed keen interest and happiness in the various activities.

The Special Handloom Expo 2013 is an annual calendar event of Sikkim Handloom and Handicraft Corporation Ltd. with the concept of providing a platform for the weavers, artesian, sellers and buyers, to converge and create awareness in the handloom sector as an employment and income generating industry. The Expo will continue till 2nd November 2013.

The function was also attended by L.P Barfungpa, Special Secretary cum Director Commerce and Industries and Mrs. Ganga Pradhan, Director SHHDC along with the officers and staff of the Directorate.
