The SKM frontal organization, Vidyarthi Morcha yesterday conducted a meeting for students at the party head-office here at Convoy Ground, Tadong. The meeting was attended by students from all the four districts, informs a SKM release.
In his address, SKM leader Prem Singh Golay expressed his happiness to directly interact with the students.
“SKM has not come forward to play with the emotions of the students. We don’t want to use students as vote banks to come into power. We have entered politics to make students into capable youths of tomorrow who live by their principles,” he said.
Golay said it was unfortunate for students to see that there is no education board in Sikkim. It is the failure of the State government that the Sikkim University has no infrastructural development even after 7 years of its existence, he said.
“When SKM comes to power, it will set up the State’s own education board. Similarly SKM will resolve the land issue and start the infrastructural development of Sikkim University. We will also monitor the private universities here and take quality guarantee from them,” said Golay.
He also promised to bring an end to the present practice of government service extension to retiring secretaries within a week of SKM government.
In return, we will give extension to peons, homeguards and other low-level government employees, said Golay.
Commenting on the protests of adhoc teachers, Golay said it was due to the wrong policies of the State government that the future of more than 2,000 adhoc teachers are ‘in dark’ forcing them to sit on a dharna.
SKM is the only alternative among the people of Sikkim, said Golay
