Manipur Women Commission met victim, rapists absconding still

The fact finding team of Manipur State Commission for Women met the rape victim of Kakching and the parents. Police raided the residents of the culprits, who are absconding still.

The fact-finding team was led by Pitiswori Hudam, member of Manipur State Commission for Women along with its Member Secretary,  S. Meghachandra.

Latter, Pitiswori also met and taken the statement from the victim separately and assured to the victim and the family members for justice.

“The victim is minor and it is the matter of kidnapping and raping a minor. The rapist, the parents and others involved in the crime will not be spared,” says Pitiswori.

Geeta (name changed) 17 years old, a student of Class XI, studying at Shillong was kidnapped by a son of Yengkokpam Rameshwor Singh, resident of Charangpat Mamang Leikai, Thoubal district, kidnapped with three men in a red Maruti van on January 25.

She was raped inside the vehicle and forced her to accept as eloped with her consent by the family members of the rapist, stated in the press noted of the NE Helpline.

A case of kidnapping, seducing and raping a minor girl is registered at Kakching police station u/s 366/376/342/34 of IPC and 3(1)(XII) of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocity Act 1989 on January 30.

Reacting to the allegation published by the father of the rapist, Y. Rameshwor Singh in Hueiyen Lanpao today, the victim broke down in tears and narrated to the members of the fact-finding team that the rapist’s father is trying to cover the crime committed by his son and himself.

“The allegation level against me and my parents saying that it was elopement with my consent and my father is baseless. I want the rapist, his parents and other people involved in the crime must be booked and punished,” says the victim.

Early today, a delegation also met the SDPO of the Kakching Police, A. G. Sharma to enquire about the actions taken by the police.

According to the police, an attempt to arrest the culprits was taken and the culprits are absconding.

Sharma assured the delegation that the culprits will be arrested soon and they will be brought before the law of the land.

North East Support Centre & Helpline will fight until justice is given to the victim and the culprits are punished.
