The house of a former Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) leader Bhanu Lama located near Dr. Zakir Hussain road here was vandalized allegedly by some Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters April 16 afternoon.
Lama, also the ex-DGHC councillor of Lopchu Peshok area filed an FIR in the Darjeeling Sadar Police station against three people, Tilak Chettri, Deepak Thapa, Pema Pradhan, all Morcha supporters.
“When I came back home from town this afternoon, I discovered the windows of my house broken along with the sinks, furniture and electric wires. That storey of my house was being renovated and there were some carpenters working in it, who were also attacked by the people who vandalized my house,” said Lama, who is presently not associated with any political party.
It may be mentioned here that Lama had earlier resigned Ex-GNLF leader’s house vandalized The damaged house of Bhanu Lama as the DGHC councilor when the GNLF chief had asked all councilors to resign.
Lama has in the FIR maintained that there were about 25 more unidentified people who were behind the damage of his house. He alleged that he had seen Tilak Chettri going towards his house with some people before he left for town today.
It may also be added here that Lama had started staying in his house since a year ago. Lama also has a house at Lopchu, which was vandalized in 2008.
In fact, GNLF leaders were forced out of the Hills, after a GJM women supporter was killed in a firing that had allegedly come from a GNLF leader Deepak Gurung’s house on July 25, 2008. Properties of several GNLF leaders across the Hills areas were vandalized after that.
A senior police official when contacted confirmed the FIR being lodged and maintained that one police officer and four constables will be kept at the house of Lama to provide him security.
“We are looking into the incident and will keep some police personnel in his house as security for a week and assessing the situation further we will decide as what to do,” the officer said.
