After the outrage sparked off by the death of a 19-year-old boy from Arunachal Pradesh Mr Nido Tania, the Ministry of Home Affairs (Govt of India) has constituted a Committee to look into the various kinds of concerns of the persons hailing from the North Eastern States who are living in different parts of the country, especially the Metropolitan areas and to suggest suitable remedial measures. The Committee has been asked to submit its report within two months.
The Committee has been asked to examine the various kinds of concerns, including the concerns regarding security of the persons hailing from the North Eastern States. It will also examine the causes behind the attacks/ violence and discrimination against the people from the North Eastern States and suggest measures to be taken by the Government to address these concerns.
The Committee will be chaired by Mr M.P. Bezbaruah, IAS (Retd.) and will have Mr H.W.T. Syeim, IAS (Retd.), Mr Alemtemshi Jamir, IAS (Retd.), Mr Tape Bagra, IAS (Retd.) and Mr P. Bharat Singh, IAS (Retd.) as members. Mr S. Saha, Deputy Secretary, MHA will be the member secretary.
The Chairman of the Committee shall co-opt members, one each from the other North Eastern States, viz. Tripura, Mizoram and Sikkim as well as one lady member.
Mr Robin Hibu, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi will also be in the team of the Ministry of Home Affairs which will assist the Committee.
