New Delhi, February 14, 2014

The recent spiral attacks on the northeasterners sparked off a massive protest on February 14 here in Jantar Mantar and Parliament area.

Around 500-700 students held a peaceful protest march on Valentine’s Day against racial attacks and discriminations in the national capital.

It was gloomy day with a gust of rain. However people from Northeast and supporters from JNUSU poured in large number. They shouted slogans “Stop Racism”, “Enact Anti-Racial Law in India”, “I Love Northeast”, etc.

At around 4pm, the huge protesters began marching towards the Parliament. The peaceful protesters were suddenly beaten with sticks by the policemen. Security forces arrived in big numbers and began lathi-charged like a heavy rain on the peaceful protesters. Many of them were detained and injured. Later in the evening all the detainees were set out free from the Parliament Street police station. Among the injured three admitted in RML hospital.
