A song dedicated to Nido Tania by students of Sikkim was released online yesterday in reverberation.com.
Tania, 19 years, was beaten to death in South Delhi recently in a racially motivated attacked by local shopkeepers. The fatal assault triggered widespread protests in the Northeastern region raising the issue of racial discrimination people, especially students from the region have to face in Delhi and some parts of the country.
The tribute song to Tania is ‘Mundane journey of life’ is composed by Sikkim’s metal band ‘Dwelling for Aeon’. The band members have also suffered humiliating remark in past like their Northeastern counterparts.
“I have studied outside and have gone through the experienced of being bullied for my distinct features. The song sends a strong message against racial discrimination. It is a small effort from us to appeal the people to say ‘no to racial remarks’. Let this kind of incidents not repeat in future,” said band vocalist Ashish Biswakarma.
Ashish recently completed his diploma in civil engineering from Coimbatore.
All the five band members are aged between 17 to 22 years and college students. The other members are Arun Pandey (lead guitars), D.K. Calvin (lead guitar), Adarsh Gautam (bassist), Anup Rai (drums).
A Japanese student studying at Paljor Namgyal Girls senior secondary school, Suseri Fuchimoto has played violin in the song.
“There was a nationwide uproar after the death of Nido Tania. Different people express their sadness and tribute in their own ways. We wanted to pay own ways. We wanted to pay a tribute through music as it touches the souls,” said ‘Dwelling for Aeon’ members.
The band was formed in 2011 and follows metal outfits like While Chapel, Lamb of God and Pantera. The band also participated in the IIT Guwahati rock competition last year.
