Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Sikkim Unit has submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Sikkim Shri Balmiki Prasad Singh, Chief Secretary Mr. ND Chingapa along with Minister, Energy and Power Department and Secretary Energy and Power Department regarding the widespread corruption in the State.
Party is even planning to meet the in-charge of Member of Parliament Mr. Nikhil Choudhary on 27th April 2011.
Addressing a press meet held at BJP party office, Tadong on 25th April president BJP Sikkim Unit Mr. Padam Bahadur Chettri, alleged that Chief Minister(CM) Pawan Chamling is more corrupt than Mr. AK Raja and urged the Central Government to take strong action against the CM and punish him accordingly.
Chettri stated that Nikhil Choudhary, Member of Parliament will be raising the corruption issue at Parliament in the upcoming session and that as per the CAG report of financial year 2010 Rs. 6,254 crores has been embezzled by different departments in the state.
Mr. Chettri pointed out that there is no single member from the opposition parties in Sikkim Legislative Assembly and due to which the corruption has been increasing in the state rapidly.
In normal circumstances in a well governed state, there are constitutional bodies to take care of corruption and cognate issue stated Mr. Chettri. But in Sikkim, the Public Account Committee (PAC) is ineffective and in fact Sikkim is under one man dictatorial rule since1984 and the PAC in Sikkim is under his control.
BJP will keep on protesting against the corruption prevailing in Sikkim as the BJP in the center is currently focusing in corruption issue across the country and will take the issue seriously. Party even appealed to all the people of Sikkim to come forward and join hands to raise the voice against corruption and added that BJP Sikkim unit even has plans of holding a hunger strike against corruption in the State.
